Hello…
I’m selling my camper - a 1979 2 litre T2. In short it’s a good van which runs very well and only has a couple of minor bad points.
I the camper around two years ago from previous owners who had spent a considerable amount of money on renovating the van. However, it has not been renovated back to ‘standard’ - it could be said it is more of a ‘festival’ type camper as the built in appliances have been removed and replaced with portable ones so that you can take as much or as little as you like depending on the situation. They also replaced all of the headlining in the camper to a high standard and replaced the engine with a reconditioned model - which has now covered around 3000 miles. The speedo on the van is approx 54,000.
I’ve detailed each individual category concerning the camper:
Engine etc:
As mentioned above, it is a 2l recon unit which has now covered around 3000 miles. It has also been fitted with Pertronix electronic ignition.
In the past month it has had an oil and filter change, new fuel pump flange, new sender dipstick and new battery(bosch S5 silver) fitted.
The van has 12 months MOT - which it passed first time. The van is currently on a SORN.
The engine runs flawlessly and pulls as it did when it left the factory (I imagine :-). It starts first time every time.
The van has also had the heater pipes and cables replaced so that it actually makes heat in the winter, unlike many others!
All four tyres are virtually new and have lots of tread on them.
The sliding door has a had new hinge recenlty fitted.
The rear floor brace has recently been welded - more for my piece of mind than necessity though.
Interior:
The driver and passenger seats in the van are a lovely set of black leather fully electric ones. They are exceedingly comfortable on long journeys!
The audio equipment consists of an iPod controlling CD head unit, front and rear speakers and an adjustable subwoofer.
Rear seat belts have been fitted on the rear bench seat - the standard 3 point belt and the lap belt.
Additonal fold down seats have been fitted behind the driver/passenger seats which can be used to seat additional people if required. These can also be used for travelling as seatbelts have been fitted for these also. If not required then these seats can be easily unscrewed and removed. There is also a third seat which fits between these two which can be used for additional stationary seating.
There is a ‘beer’ fridge fitted which runs from a leisure battery stored under the rock’n’roll bed.
The camper also comes with a host of extras(if wanted):
Drive away awning “Royal Traveller, Annexe”. The awning is in good condition but has been used so does have the odd tear, however these are just in the awning and not in the sleeping quarters.
Gas ‘grill’
Sink unit with drainer
Portable loo with chemicals
Bike Rack
Rooftop Luggage Rack
New exhaust tailpipe for fitting when required
Windbreak
Metal Step
B&W Portable TV
Electrical hookup cable (long!) - 4 Bar adapter to 3 pin standard campsite hookup.
Toaster, kettle and various other bits and pieces.
Bad Points:
There are a couple of bad points to the camper which I need to mention.
There is an occasional small oil leak from the engine which I believe may be the crankshaft seal. I’m not certain this is the issue but I’m taking a worst-case view and I’ve adjusted the price accordingly.
The camper is not 100% rust free but it is very good with generally only a few very minor areas of rust. The worst area is beneath the rear drivers-side tail light where there is a seam about 3 inches long which may need attention - although it hasn’t changed in the time I’ve had the camper.
The keylock for the sliding door does not function - although the door locks just fine using the slider inside the door, i.e. it can be locked from the passenger seat.
The fuel sender has recently become tempremental - it works ok 95% of the time but occasionally reads zero when it shouldn’t.
In short, it’s a very honest and reliable van which I’m pretty sad to see go but unfortunately family circumstances dictate it must go.
If you want any more information or photographs then please ask.
I’m based in East Lothian, not far from Haddington.
Oh yeh, price - am looking for around £7k o.no.
