hello !
bought myself a leather steering wheel - mk3 with airbag - for mk 3 1996 8 v gti. Should be a straight swop. But am scared of airbag!! Anyone done this …and even better might be willing to help - for curry/beer or fee of choice? garage is muttering…sounds expensive!
Booked it in for MOT on Monday anyway but if any advice or thoughts before that would be mighty welcome

It is straight forward. Make sure the battery is disconnectyed for a min of 30 mins before you start, always keep the airbag away from your face. When you take it off, point it towards the passenger side until it’s disconnected from it’s power source. Store it away from any power source too.
Watch you don’t hit yourself in the face when removing the steering wheel. They come off quite suddenly!! Leave the nut that secures it on a few threads until you get it moving.

OK DONE IT!!
That cowling was the hardest bit and threw me for a while. Everythign else seemed dead straightforward as you said and have had a quick drive to check - all seems ok and airbag light not on.
