Beaulieu Motor Museum

I arrived a day early to a course this week so had a day to kill in Southampton. I decided it would be a great day to finally see Beaulieu Motor Museum. Fantastic. Not much German metal. Only a single oval beetle and Volksrod. No buses, Karman Ghias or anything else. All was not lost however as they have a fantastic selection of vintage motors. My favourites were the Shelby 427 Cobra, Ford GT40 and an Auburn 851 from 1935.

The Museum is well set out and at the moment has a hot rod display which includes a chopped bettle called Volksrod.

I had a good old natter to some of the staff and really enjoyed myself. Would recommend a visit but don’t take the wife and kids as they will spoil it by looking bored and dragging you away from interesting conversations about superchargers and make do engineering.

I went there a few years ago when holidaying on the south coast. It was a good museum but completely eclipsed by the Haynes museum which we stumbled accross not too far away.
