Im new to the bug game and Im looking for my first Beetle. I just sold a cortina to free up some cash but I still dont have hell of a lot - around 1K. Whats my chances of getting a half decent Beetle for that price? Not bothered about the paint work or interior but I’d like a good runner and one with a solid shell.
I am selling my 1982 Beetle ( Mexican ) (not strut model) 1600cc. MOT March and just taxed for 6 months. It is silver and reasonable condition. Lots of history over the last 7 years and money spent. NOt perfect and will require some welding come MOT time. Very reliable and quite powerful for a BUG. Item no 4573597854 . I am in Coatbridge if your interested in viewing. PS I am not desperate to sell this , but your welcome to view and it is in your price bracket!
Cheers mate, I can’t decide whether to sell or not??!! I have a 72 tax exempt one, but I just know this one is better. Decisuions decisions :think :think :think :think :think

Hi,
Sounds interesting, seen it on eBay, what welding do you think it would need for the next MOT and do you know any good/cheap welders?!!!
Rear quarter at very bottom requires repair and possibly bumper hangers, can’t quite remember. Welders, well I would save a packet and buy one. It’s quite easy once you practice a bit. I’ve seen some right dodgy welding by so called professionals! Greg at Stonehouse (Bus Stop Ecosse ?) is apparently a trustworthy guy. I am only considering selling it as I have bought a tax exempt one and have to concentrate on one a t a time. Basically I am skint and tax exempt is the way to go for me. It’s 1600cc so full tax!! Your welcome to come and have a look. It has a bid on it already at £850. I will negotiate and end early for a local. The first bidder is from Cambridge!. I sold my mates 1962 project recently on e-bay and the guy collected and took it to Portsmouth!
The welding doesnt sound too bad (I think!!) Im going to ask a few questions on the forum about the welding bits you mentioned to see how much of a job it is, but I would like to see the car if possible. I’ll contact you thru ebay to come see it.
That fact that its a mexican import and you say its not a strut does that mean its kind of standard? I know nowt about beetles, except the engine is in the boot!!!
Yes, it has a flat windscreen, and no struts (good or bad?) It basically is the same as say a 1972 model (I think). It has moder stuff: alternator, disc brakes etc. Please note : as stated in e-bay, this car is not mint, it has been welded a fair bit. Obviuosly i f it was mint as with all Beetles, it would be worth substantially more. It is not a modern car, and will require constant maintenance and welding (at times) to keep it on the road. If I keep it I am going to do a body off resto on it ( mainly to re-chassis it onto a tax exempt one).
Your welcome to view though and I will show you all the faults. Siome of the past welding is pretty poor - as in plates here, plates there etc. Typical keep it running stuff.
