I have a pair of GRP running boards for a Beetle for sale.
Originally in a white finish, but there are rust stain marks and splashes of black paint on them.
The central mounting notches show a bit of wear but repair washers behind the mounting bolts should hold them OK. That or a bit of fibreglass repair kit work should fix them.
I reckon they’d look great painted matt black with a stick on chrome stripe down the side.
Strong, rust free, and lighter than steel (but not as light as carbon fibre Mark! 
)
