Hahah! Brilliant!!

Totally agree!

My recent experience with a haynes manual.

“Remove front disk: remove two small retaining screws, then lift disk off the hub. This may require a couple of taps with a soft faced hammer on the rear of the disk.”

Actual situation.

“what small retaining screws? there isn’t any!”

tap, tap goes the soft faced hammer. no joy.
bang bang goes the hard faced hammer. nothing except the ringing noise in my head from the disk pretending it is a bell.
clang clang goes the large very hard faced hammer. doesn’t budge.

after considerable amounts of swearing… I notice the disk has a number of small cut outs that are designed for a puller and the centre of the hub has a recess for the pushing bit of the puller. Excellent!

fit the three armed puller that I lucky have stashed in garage (only took 20 mins to find it!)

tighten up the puller with my ratchet. nothing moves.
tighten up the puller with a long breaker bar. not a squeak!
heave on the breaker bar, feel the car rock on the jack. still no change!

swear continuously for five mins.

after throwing tools arround for another 5 mins and going in a huff with the car, my tools, me for buying it and the world at large…

get out the blow torch.

then it starts to happen. with a good blast, the disk creeps off a couple of mm. So more heat and tighen the puller. A little further.

5 mins later and the disk is off.

Haynes manual? you got to love them!
