Anyone have a good set of inertia belts and buckles for my Karmann? It has a mixed bag at present and want something that is aged but usable as opposed to shiny and new. Thanks
David
I have a set that were on my Bus (73 Bay), would they fit? They have the full belts and buckles. If you are interested give me a buzz on 0777 378 4466
Andy
Hi Andy, I think they are different but happy to be proven wrong. They come up as T2’s on coolair website where as Karmann ones are T1 shared with beetle.
Cheers
David
Maybe depends what wheels are on your car. Are you near Dalkeith and we could try them. I am going on the Drive It day tomorrow and could take them to the steading for 10.00 if that is of any use?
Andy
Andy I live in Dalkeith, but he car is in Dalkeith sports cars until next weekend? Could I pick them up or meet up next weekend? Thanks
Yep, no problem .
Hi Andy I think I know the difference! Its to do with the length of the stalk of the floor mounted clip. My guess is yours will be around 45cm where as T1 is usually 30 cms. Annoyingly my existing clips are different which is why i’m looking to change. So if the belts are good, maybe someone has two matching T1 floor mounted clips?
It would seem to me that using seat belts that are over 40 years old is not the best safety measure for your car. Air cooled cars don’t have much protection in case of a frontal accident. Surely a pair of new seat belts would be the most practical thing. old seat belts are exactly that, old seat belts. They are a false economy that you could pay dearly for. Said my bit. I will now shut up on the subject.
Everyone is off course entitled to their opinion. From my viewpoint, the interior is untouched and has a retro feel. One belt is original (suitable for MOT purposes) but alas the other was not and hence I now have a mismatch. The new belts are just that, repro, generally poor in quality and in my humble opinion look somewhat out of place. So, if there are belts (whatever age) that are serviceable and pass an MOT, then that is my preference. I hear what you say about protection etc, if I was really worried, there would be a roll cage and four point harness fitted…
