Leisure wiring for a US import 1977 T2

Hellur,

I’ve been the proud owner of a 1977 US import T2 2.0lt for a few years now. Bit shabby on the outside but on the inside it’s completely original and in great condition. It also still has the 110v sockets and wiring inside. It’s not something that’s really ever bothered me, but the missus is now onto me to sort it out so that we can hook up to shore power so that the fridge and sockets will work etc.

Does anyone know of an easy way to do this, is there a “kit” on the market that will neatly fit in if I take out all the 110v bits?

Any pointers will be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Rik

Hi Rik, I too have a USA Import. I ended up buying the complete UK hook Up Kit from Just Kampers - £79.95. Well worth it

Hi Wilma,

Thanks for that, looks like the kind of thing I’m after.

With your van, when you installed the 240v kit, did you have any complications with regards to the fridge and other 12v stuff that can run from hook up as well as the leisure battery?

You can do it for a lot less. All you need is a MCB socket which you buy from B&Q for £25 and a hookup socket and some 240v flex. If you’ve already got a 110v socket you could probably use that but you’ll need to make up a lead with the right end. PM me and I’ll give you my phone number and I can explain better.

Hi again, unfortunately, I don’t know the answer yet to that question. My Campervan is still in the garage, having a service done now. I too wish to know how the fridge works? Can anybody enlighten us? I’ve had lots of new electrical fittings put in by an electrician and haven’t had the pleasure yet of driving and using my Wilma Westy. I also need to know how I use the leisure battery without the need of a hook up. This is my very first VW Campervan, so I have got lots to learn and need lots of hints and tips please

When it’s one the road give me a bell. I am only the other side of Dunfermline. I’ll show you around and show you how stuff works. BTW I tried twice on the W/E to ring.
