MOT / Garage recommendations Edinburgh

Hi,

I was not sure where to post so hope this section is okay.

My mk2 Golf is finally ready to go back on the road. I am struggling to find a garage to MOT it. My usual vw specialists are not wanting to do the MOT in case it needs work - they dont want to work on a 30yr old car anymore.
I was recommended a garage on Manderston Street down in Leith. Sadly the car has been there nearly 2weeks. It was in for a pre booked MOT but after numerous excuses I am just having it collected and brought home. Hugely frustrating as its a waste of money getting it transported but I can’t risk driving it with no MOT/tax.
Anyway, could anyone recommend a place that will do the MOT/work on the older cars and actually do an MOT when its booked in for?

Really appreciate any recommendations!

Thats a pity they are mucking you about, maybe have a chat to see if they can get it done before the expense of having it transported again.
I personally don’t use any garages in edinburgh so can’t really recommend any, sorry.

Hi Jigs,

I have spoken to him 5 times. Different excuse and doe snot seem to bother that I am on the bus and each time he says ‘its ready today’ I move work so I can collect. Only to discover its not actually done.

So its coming home, sadly.

Yeah that doesn’t sound good at all, I think your right to remove it then.

I use union motor company at drumbryden near wester Hailes for my bug Mot and can’t really fault them. If you mention you were recommended by me Mark cottle they will fit you in etc. I’m not 100% sure what work they would do but there fair etc and then you know what needs done, I can’t see how they wouldn’t do work on it etc

I used to use Norman Stewart Autoservices in Balcarres street, many years ago. These days I use 3d autoservices at Newtongrange because it’s more convenient. Bit surprised no one wants to mot it. They don’t have to do the work if it fails, and you could take it somewhere else to get the work done. In addition, a mk2 golf may not be stuffed with computers but it’s not much different to work on than a new car, in fact, I’d say it’s easier to work on!
