restoration help/advice pleez

Hello, Im restoring an early 60’s beetle (kept in a dry lock up since 1991). She’s not been started since then but the engine turns freely by hand , iv’e purchased a 6 volt battery and i could do with some advice on the start up. The bug has its share of rot (door pillars, floor pan etc etc…) so if anyone out there could reccomend a vw loving welder in the Fife area i’d be very grateful.
Regards Gordon.

Cant advise on welders in the Fife area. As for the engine, I would change the oil, and check the plugs, reset the points or replace them and set the timing. I would take the top off the carb, and tip out the old fuel, if any and give it a good clean with carb cleaner. Drain the fuel tank and put some fresh fuel in it. I would also replace all the rubber fuel line with fresh and make sure the fuel pipe is clear down the tunnel. If all is well fit a battery and have a go. It will make it easier if you could prime up the pump, by sucking some fuel through as well.
