T5 Camper Project

Hi all, the Mrs and myself have recently bought ourselves a camper! We’ve fancied one for a while for- funnily enough, camping! But also so we can do some big roadtrips, and tow Herbie to some of the big VW shows down south. Last week we picked up this T5 which has had a T6 front end, and rear door fitted to modernise it a little. We have a TONNE planned for it so will keep the thread here updated!

Nice looking bus mate! Looking forward to see you put your own touch on it :+1:t2:

Looks great Ross!

Started to make some upgrades this week! Realistically, the exterior needs fresh paint and we plan to do that over winter, so I feel there’s no point buying any outside goodies until the paint is done. But we have made a start on the interior! This past week we’ve added some nice pedal covers as the original rubber ones were almost worn right through! A new billet gear knob, more modern looking heater control knobs, and finally new seats! We wanted to get rid of the double seat which we didn’t like. Lastly a new steering wheel is en route so will post an update once that’s in too.

New steering wheel fitted today, an easy enough job with a T5 to Mk7 Golf adapter airbag loom from ‘Patrick Steering Wheels.’ Was a case of just plug and play. Makes a massive difference to the look of the van!

Looking good, those seats looks cracking ! what are they from ??

Thanks mate, believe it or not- a Skoda Karoq Sportline! Was pleased to find them! We were originally looking at Mk7 Golf GTI/GTD seats, but glad we went for these instead.

Wee update on the van. So over winter we’ve put together a wee list of the things needing sorted on the camper project. Today I tackled the first one, the central locking- which via both remote and manually had stopped working. After doing some research I found that it’s common for the factory solder on a wire under the drivers seat to fail due to years of condensation. Today I pulled the seat and investigated… Right enough, the connection was totally green and literally crumbled as I unwrapped it. Cleaned it all up, cut the bad pieces of wire out, re-soldered and we’re back to having a properly locking van! First thing checked off the list!
